Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026. Applies to the website peek.talk and the Peek.Talk browser add-on.
Peek.Talk has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. The site and the add-on keep your settings and the downloaded models in your own browser. Text leaves your browser only when you choose an online translator or a browser voice, and then it goes to that service, never to us.
Who is responsible
Peek.Talk is made and run by its author. Questions about this policy and requests about your data: [email protected].
What stays in your browser
- Your choices. Your language, the language you are learning, the share of swapped sentences or words, the reading mode, the voice settings. The site keeps them in the browser's local storage, the add-on in the browser's extension storage.
- Downloaded models. The Mozilla translation models and the Supertonic 3, Piper and Kokoro voice models you download are kept in the browser's cache storage. Their size is shown at the bottom of the site, and the button "Clear downloaded data" removes them. In the add-on the models are listed and removed in its settings.
- Your own translator. If you connect an LLM of your own in the add-on, its address and your API key are stored in the extension storage on your device only. They are sent to the address you entered and nowhere else.
- Translations already made. The site caches the translations of its sample texts so they do not have to be made twice. Your own pasted text is not kept after you leave.
All of this is on your device. Deleting the site data in your browser, or removing the add-on, deletes it. We cannot see it.
What leaves your browser, and when
- The built-in translator of Chrome and Edge translates on your device. The browser downloads its language packs from its vendor (Google or Microsoft) under the vendor's privacy policy.
- The Mozilla offline models and the voice models are downloaded from our mirror at models.peek.talk, hosted at Cloudflare, or from huggingface.co when the mirror does not have a file. A download shows your IP address to that host, as any download does. After that, translation and speech happen on your device.
- Online translators. When you choose Google, Microsoft or Yandex in the add-on, the text to translate is sent to that service (translate.googleapis.com, edge.microsoft.com or translate.yandex.net) and their privacy policies apply. When you choose your own LLM, the text goes to the address you entered. Nothing passes through a Peek.Talk server.
- Browser voices. The online voices of Chrome and Edge send the sentence to be spoken to the browser's vendor. The Supertonic 3, Piper and Kokoro models speak on your device, and nothing is sent.
- Your country, once. On the first visit the site asks our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which country your IP address belongs to, to suggest a language to learn. The answer is a two-letter country code. It is not stored, and you can change the suggestion at once.
- Hosting. The site, the add-on's models and this page are served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the IP address and the request of each visitor to deliver the page and to protect the service. Cloudflare's own privacy policy applies to that processing. We keep no visitor logs ourselves.
The add-on's permissions
- Access to web pages (host permissions, scripting, the active tab): to read the text of the page you are looking at and to swap some sentences for their translation. The add-on reads a page only when you turn it on for that page or switch on automatic translation. Sites you exclude are never read.
- Storage: for your settings and the downloaded models.
- Offscreen document (Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers): a hidden page of the add-on that runs the translation and voice models.
The add-on does not collect browsing history, does not build a profile and sends nothing to us.
Cookies
Peek.Talk sets no cookies. The storage described above holds only what the site and the add-on need to work, which is why there is nothing to opt out of. The notice at the bottom of the site tells you that your choices are kept in the browser.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, correct and delete personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to take it with you, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Peek.Talk holds no personal data about you on its side, so there is nothing we could hand over or delete. Everything the site and the add-on keep is in your browser, under your control. If you believe we hold something after all, write to [email protected].
Children
Peek.Talk collects no data from anyone, including children.
