Terms of Use

Last updated: 13 October 2026. Applies to the website peek.talk and the Peek.Talk browser add-on.

Peek.Talk is free. It helps you read in a language you are learning by swapping some sentences of a text for their translation. The translations are made by machines and can be wrong. Use them as a reading aid, not as a source of truth.

What Peek.Talk is

The website shows sample texts and texts you paste, with a share of the sentences or words in the language you are learning. The browser add-on does the same on web pages you open. Both work inside your browser. There is no account and no subscription.

Using the service

Translations and speech

Translations come from the translator built into your browser, from the Mozilla offline models, from an online translator you choose, or from an LLM you connect yourself. Speech comes from your browser's voices or from voice models on your device. All of them are automatic. They can mistranslate, skip a sentence or mispronounce a word. Peek.Talk does not check them and is not responsible for what they produce. Do not rely on them where a wrong translation could cause harm.

Third-party services

When you pick Google, Microsoft or Yandex as the translator, or use the online voices of Chrome or Edge, you use those companies' services under their own terms and privacy policies. The same applies to an LLM you connect: the address, the API key and the costs are yours. The translation and voice models you download were made by their authors and are provided under their own licences, which the add-on shows next to each model.

Downloads and your device

The offline models take space on your device, from a few tens of megabytes for a language pair to a few hundred for a voice. You decide what to download, and you can delete it at any time from the site's footer or the add-on's settings. Running the models uses your processor or graphics card. Peek.Talk is not responsible for the data or the battery this takes.

No warranty

Peek.Talk is provided as it is, free of charge, without any warranty. It may change, pause or stop at any time. To the extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any damage that comes from using or not being able to use the site or the add-on.

Privacy

What stays in your browser and what leaves it is described in the Privacy Policy.
